Adult Sunday School concludes today its study of the video
series, "Parables", by Ken Bailey.
One of our objectives in adult Sunday School is not only
to study the word of God, but to determine how to apply it in our everyday
lives. So, in addition to dipping into the Bible for guidance, we
will look at some of the issues facing us today.
One of the criteria Jesus used to separate the sheep
from the goats is: "I was in prison and you visited
me." For two weeks, beginning Feb. 3rd, Lynne Lawson will lead
a study as we look at the state of prisons in the United States. Why
is the U.S. prison population growing despite a drop in crime? How
should Christians respond? Then on Feb. 17th, we will look at the
current U.S. debate on the use of torture and formulate a Christian
response.
On Feb 24 we will rejoin Kerygma for "A Spiritual
Journey Through Holy Week", a five-week exploration, led by Maryann
Damonte, of the main texts in each of the four gospels, as well as Paul's
writing, that deal specifically with the last week of Jesus' life and with
the resurrection.
Wednesday Night Supper Study: Join us every
Wednesday night for an informal Bible study preceded by dinner.
Bring your dinner and enjoy it in the company of good friends. We
have an informal meal at 6:00 p.m., followed by an hour of Bible study.
On Wednesday, January 30th, we began studying the Book
of Acts. Using the congregation-wide self-study of Acts (which will
be in your bulletin every Sunday) we will discuss the true meanings of
these words of God at a more detailed level. It is not necessary to
be present every week in order to benefit or contribute to this
group. We hope you will join us regularly.
