Aug. 18 – Heroes of Faith

What kind of people do you expect to find described in the Bible?

Hebrews 11:31-32 lists eight people by name as exemplars of faith. And all of them are deeply flawed. Their persistence in running the race that God set before them sets them apart.

If these people can be considered “heroes of the faith”, then we too may strive to advance the Kingdom of Heaven. There is no reason we cannot persevere; for although the messes of life may slow us down and distract us from God, the grace Christ offers frees us to run far with Christ.

I will have more to say about Hebrews 11:29-12:2 at Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 18th.

A Tip for Parents

Does your child have an irrational fear? A shadow in the closet? A monster under the bed?

Spiders made me quiver with fear. Some still do.

Reminders that God is with us, at all times, can help even adults face real fears. A skill that can be taught in childhood when facing fictional frights.
