Statement from the ruling elders of Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church regarding current events:
Racism and prejudice are a plague in our nation, which cause many of our brothers and sisters to live in legitimate fear of violence and discrimination. Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church condemns racism and prejudice of all kinds. James 2:9 tells us, “If you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin.” If we truly have faith in Jesus, we will strive to love one another equally through the love of Jesus Christ.
We urge our community to find ways to bridge the issues that divide Americans, rather than widening the gap of distrust and misunderstanding. We fully support our brothers and sisters who are standing up for justice. We encourage everyone to be steadfast in the fight against discrimination, prejudice and hatred.
As part of the new Matthew 25 movement of the PC(USA), Temple Terrace Presbyterian is committed to promoting racial equity as part of caring for the most vulnerable and forgotten members of God’s family. Matthew 25 churches strive to actively engage with their communities and take action to support and protect those who need food, clothes, welcome, healing, and freedom.
We will keep you informed of the actions we will soon take to support our community and fight inequality.
